Community Champions Social Media Guide
Below you’ll find a general timeline you can use to plan your social media calendar for Giving Day. We are asking Community Champions to reach two audiences; getting nonprofits to sign up (deadline 3/17) and the Rhode Island community at large to know about 401Gives and become donors on the weekend of April 1st.
4 Months Out
The focus during this time is to get the nonprofits in your network to sign up and be a part of the big day March 31 - April 3, 2025!

1-2 Months Out
Once we're 2 months away from givingday, messaging should start to focus less on signing up and more about outreach to the community.
Save the date: Giving Day is the weekend of April 1st! You can be part of the celebration by giving to your favorite nonprofit(s). Visit givingday.org to find out more.
The real success of Giving Day will not be how much money we raise but the tremendous impact those dollars will have when nonprofits across your community put them to work! Join the giving on May 5th at givingday.org.

Other Social Media Ideas
#UnSelfie Challenge
Have donors and supporters take a 'selfie' with a caption or a cue card that explains how or why they are 'giving' this givingday.
Social Media Highlights
If there are any nonprofits going above and beyond with their givingday planning - highlight the great work they’re doing with a quick post asking them questions like “why are you participating in givingday?” and “how does your organization make a difference?” or any other questions you can think up that will get your network invested in the impact they will have on May 5th.
Start a Countdown
As you get closer to the big day start a social media countdown so your supporters definitely won’t forget what May 5th is! Each day you countdown can feature different information or highlight a different fact or insight about your community and its nonprofits. Get creative! Every week on a specific day share an official givingday update.
Create Custom Graphics
You can create a graphic using free tools like Canva.com to show how many nonprofits have signed up, how many days until May 5th, and other information that will get your supporters excited.
Real-Time Thank Yous
On the big day and the day after - thank donors on social media by shooting them an @mention on twitter!
